Mirrors

“People mirror back to us the reality of who we are”

I read this phrase from the book, The Third Jesus, by Deepak Chopra. Very similar to the golden rule, “Do not do unto others as you would expect they should do unto you”. So when you sit down face to face with reality, or any problems or dilemmas with people, spend some time rethinking the way you treat, react, and behave towards and around the people that you come across in life.

Every thing I have ever read about establishing personal connections and relationships has said something very similar — I’m saving ‘Never Eat Alone’ for the plane, but I imagine I will see it there as well.

That idea makes sense though. Most people avoid confrontations, so when Mr. A dons the persona of Big-Shot Cool, people are not going to actively challenge his ego. By that same token, I am much less likely to stop my conversation and directly ask the opinion of Ms. Shy-and-Timid who has never made eye contact with anyone, and is sitting in an obviously closed-up manner…I would instead continue talking to Ms. Open-and-Gregarious, who looks directly at who she speaks (with confidence), stands with arms uncrossed, and is clearly not intimidated by a social setting.

I also looked into ‘The Third Jesus,’ and it definitely looks like an interesting book.
